Cloudy Day? Try Cloud Dough

If its a cloudy day, why not try Cloud Dough? Describe it? That's hard, I don't know if I can. (Line from the Lorax, in case you missed it!)

Its kinda like Sand
  • It packs, so the kids can make fossils, castles, and tunnels
  • It crumbles under pressure, so they can destroy the castles
  • Its great for burying treasure and then digging it out.

The best part is it smells great, and is easy to clean up. Its a great stress reliever for adults too since it feels so great in your hand. In my pictures my son is up on the counter, and that is only because its easiest to keep the 11 month old out of the mix (literally and figuratively) if big brother is up high out of sight and arm's reach. I keep a mix of cloud dough in a clear shoe box that I pull out whenever it is requested. I do keep a cookie tray under the box to try and contain the mess, but its so easy to clean up, sometimes I don't even bother with that. I just scoop what has spilled outside the box into my hand, and put it back in the box. And a wet rag, and I'm done! Even the grandparents enjoy it!

I got this idea (you guessed it) from something I pinned to Pinterest. Its from the Play Create Explore blog and her post has some really great photos. Her ideas for cloud dough include using cookie cutters to make shapes (my kid was frustrated when the "cookies" wouldn't stay together) or rulers to cut it into pieces!

The Recipe
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup baby oil (or enough so you get the consistency described here!)

You gotta try it. Everyone who visits our house, I have to pull out the Cloud dough so they can feel it. Really. Its heavenly!
